The M.A. in Government is oriented towards the study of American government, law, and the Western philosophic tradition. Intended for students concerned about current trends in American government and society, this degree program appeals to students who care deeply about ideas, philosophy, and the journey that the American people have followed to build, and defend, the ideas, and institutions of government, that define America today.

We offer this program to our fellow citizens, and especially to Officers in the Armed Forces of the United States, at an important juncture in American history when there are reasons to believe that the general course of the last century may lead to results that threaten the very survival of the ideas that define us.  If Americans lose consciousness of the central ideas that compose our country's public philosophy, all Americans will lose what holds us together as a people.
